Creating an account, publishing a listing and browsing homes cost nothing. The membership is only due when you want to confirm an exchange — so the first 100 GuestPoints are reachable without paying.
Home swapping has no checkout, and that alone explains why coupon sites struggle with HomeExchange. You do not buy a stay: you pay one annual membership, then trade homes with other members or settle in GuestPoints, the platform's internal currency. There is no basket, no order, and therefore no field where a discount code could ever apply.
What does exist is a referral code, and it does not cut the fee — it pays in GuestPoints. Ours is camille-38d9e. The new member collects 100 GuestPoints once their own listing is complete and 150 more once the membership is paid; the referrer collects 50 then 200 at the same two milestones, for up to ten referrals. Stop after the listing and you keep 100, no more.
GuestPoints do not convert to money and cannot be withdrawn, so any site quoting a euro or dollar value has invented it. HomeExchange does publish its own yardstick, though, and it is the honest one to use: the 500-point welcome bonus is described on the membership page as "the equivalent of 5 nights accommodation". At roughly 100 points a night, a referral is worth about two and a half nights — an average, not a promise, since every listing sets its own nightly rate.
Two details are worth more than any coupon. First, membership is $235 a year (175 EUR in France) and buys twelve months of unlimited exchanges — and if you complete no exchange in your first year, the next one is free. Second, and unusually, the referral is not lost if you have already signed up: the field sits in My Account, My Profile, under the social section. Do it before paying, because the payment is what releases the larger half.
